Scorpion

Scorpions are closely related to spiders, mites, and ticks. There appears to be over 2000 different species. All known scorpion species possess venom and use it to paralyze their prey. They have eight legs, a pair of grasping claws and the narrow segmented tail with a venomous stinger. The scorpion’s tail is curved back over the body towards the head and is commonly called the stinger, a hypodermic barb. All scorpions have a venomous sting, but most of the species do not pose a serious threat to humans. Scorpions can glow a vibrant blue-green when exposed to certain ultraviolet light. Scorpions seek shelter during the day in underground holes and crevices of rocks, and emerge at night to hunt their prey. Scorpions feed on small insects, spiders, or crustaceans, although the larger scorpions have been known to prey on snakes and small lizards.
