Fire Ant

Fire ants nest in the soil, often near moist areas, such as river banks, ponds and watered lawns. Fire ants build large mound nests that are flattened, irregular in shape, and between two and four square feet in size. A typical fire ant colony produces large mounds in open areas, and feeds mostly on young plants and seeds. Although these fire ants are often found outdoors, they can gain access to buildings and homes through small cracks and air exchange units. Fire ants will sting anyone who disturbs a nest. The sting of a red fire ant is painful, it’s a sensation similar to what one feels when burned by fire. Often, a person stung by fire ants will receive multiple stings from more than one of the ants. Persons allergic to insect stings will react more severely to red ant stings. Interfering with a fire ant nest can cause them to sting. They can be dangerous to small children and young animals. These ants are renowned for their ability to survive extreme conditions. They do not hibernate, but can survive cold conditions and even floods. Red fire ants and their telltale mound nests should be actively avoided. Interfering with a fire ant nest can cause them to sting, resulting in painful welts. Should you spot or suspect you have active colonies of red ants on your property, email Sniper Services and let them exterminate the problem.

Sugar Ant

Sugar Ants are found in pantries, on kitchen counters, and in and around sinks. These ants typically become more active in the summer. The Sugar Ant is small and very abundant in making trails, usually to and from food or water sources. They move single-file in a row. Sugar Ants, due to their preference for sugary or sweet foods, are also called piss-ants. Sugar Ants are often found going into or coming out of the cover plates of electrical outlets. The outlets make it easier for them to access interior walls and they can use the wires as their roadways. Sugar Ants that invade homes will often nest in damp interior walls around plumbing or near leaky window sills. It’s important to remove food sources from kitchen surfaces and clean those surfaces thoroughly. Sugar Ants are not a major health threat, they can potentially transmit disease and contaminate sterile materials. They’re persistent and can re-establish quickly. So if you have a major problem with Sugar Ants, Sniper Services can rid your home or business of Sugar Ants so they don’t relocate and repopulate.
